The Smallest Single-Shield TBM “Longrun” in China Achieved a 5000-Meter Breakthrough
Source: Date:2025年02月07日

Recently, the “Longrun” TBM, China’s smallest single-shield TBM with an excavation diameter of 4.6 meters, achieved a 5000-meter breakthrough during the construction of the Qimashan Tunnel, part of the second phase of the Yunnan Central Water Diversion Project by China Railway Tunnel Group.

The Qimashan Tunnel, located in Weishan County, Yunnan Province, is a critical part of the second phase of the Yunnan Central Water Diversion Project. The tunnel spans a total length of 10,420 meters, with 10,207 meters excavated using the TBM method and 213 meters using the drill-and-blast method. The excavation area lies in the “Western Yunnan Red Beds,” characterized by complex geological structures, including fault fracture zones, high-stress soft rock deformation, high external water pressure, and risks of toxic gases.
